Family Forecast is a small weather app for comparing conditions across family members' locations. This page explains, plainly, what happens to your information when you use it.
When you set up a station, you give it a name (e.g. "Mum," "Dad," a first name) and a UK postcode. This is stored only in the app's local storage, on your device. Family Forecast has no server of its own, so this information is never transmitted to us or stored anywhere we control.
| Recipient | What they receive | When |
|---|---|---|
| WeatherAPI.com | The postcode for a station | Every time you open or refresh a forecast (primary weather provider) |
| Xweather | Approximate coordinates for a station | Only if WeatherAPI.com's request fails (backup weather provider) |
| postcodes.io | The postcode for a station | Only as part of the Xweather backup path, to convert it to coordinates |
| Sentry | Crash and error reports; in one specific case (both weather providers failing for a station) the outward part of the postcode is included (e.g. "SW1A" from "SW1A 1AA") to help diagnose the fault | Automatically, only when something goes wrong |
| PostHog | Anonymous usage events — which screen was opened, whether a weather request succeeded. Never a name or postcode. | During normal use of the app |
| Google Play or the Apple App Store | Your purchase, handled entirely by Google or Apple | Once, when you buy the app |
We (Family Forecast) never see or store your payment details — that transaction happens entirely within Google Play or the Apple App Store. We don't run ads, and we don't sell or share your information with anyone beyond the services listed above, each of which only receives what's needed to do its specific job.
Station names, postcodes, and cached forecasts live only in the app's local storage on your device. They stay there until you clear the app's data or uninstall it — at which point they're gone, because nothing is backed up anywhere else. We don't retain a copy, because we never had one.
Family Forecast isn't directed at children and doesn't knowingly collect information from them directly — but it's designed to be used by a family together, so a parent or guardian may enter a child's first name and postcode as one of the stations. That's treated the same as any other station entry above.
If this changes in any material way, we'll update the date at the top of this page and reflect it in the app's store listing.
